How to connect Codex to Robinhood MCP.

Connecting Codex to Robinhood's official MCP takes about 15 minutes: add the connector endpoint, approve the link in the Robinhood app, audit which tools Codex can actually call, and keep the first session read-only. The same four steps work in Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor.

Step 1: Add the connector

Add Robinhood's MCP endpoint to your Codex MCP configuration (an mcp_servers entry pointing at https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading), or use the connectors UI if your build has one. Restart the session so the tools load.

Step 2: Approve in the Robinhood app

Robinhood sends an approval prompt to its mobile app. Approve it there. That is the entire auth flow. If an agent, a site, or a "helper" ever asks for your Robinhood password, 2FA code, or session token, stop. The official flow never needs them.

Step 3: Audit the tool surface

Before trusting any workflow, make Codex prove what it can do:

List every Robinhood MCP tool you can call, sorted into read-only tools and tools that change my account. Which accounts can you see, and which one is the Agentic account?

As of June 23, 2026 you should see account, portfolio, quote, tradability, search, watchlist, equity order, and account-gated options tools where your client and Agentic account are eligible. Agentic options trading is still rolling out, so make Codex list the exact tools it can call before any options workflow. Trades only execute in the dedicated Agentic account, which starts unfunded.

Step 4: Keep the first session read-only

Run a portfolio audit, pull quotes on names you hold, and review your watchlists. No orders in session one. The point is to learn what the connection can do before money is involved.

What most setups get wrong

  • Trusting that a tool exists instead of auditing. Agents improvise when a tool is missing, and improvisation near a brokerage is the failure mode.
  • No written risk policy, so every session reinvents its own rules.
  • No journal, so there is no record of what the agent did or declined to do.

That structure is exactly what we sell. The $19 Setup Playbook is this page expanded to 73 pages with troubleshooting for every blocked state. The $49 Equities adds the full operating desk: daily checks, public-data research boards, an approval queue, and audit journaling.

Common questions

Does this work with Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor too?

Yes. Any MCP-capable client follows the same four steps; only the connector settings screen differs.

Can Codex place trades after connecting?

Only supported orders in the dedicated Agentic account, only through Robinhood's official review flow, and only with money you moved there. Options require visible tools and account approval.

Is this affiliated with Robinhood?

No. SherwoodCraft is an independent product for self-directed users.
