What is the Robinhood MCP?

The Robinhood MCP is Robinhood's official Model Context Protocol server, launched in May 2026, that lets AI agents such as Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, and Cursor read a user's Robinhood accounts and place equity trades in a dedicated, isolated Agentic account. It is the first official brokerage MCP from a major US retail broker.

What can an AI agent do through the Robinhood MCP?

Robinhood's documentation and the live tool surface, as of June 2026, give agents three classes of capability:

  • Read everywhere: the MCP can read all of a user's Robinhood accounts: positions, balances, portfolio, orders, and transactions, across regular and Agentic accounts.
  • Trade only in the Agentic account: order placement is restricted to a dedicated Robinhood Agentic account the user funds separately. Your main account cannot be traded by an agent.
  • Research tools: symbol search, live equity quotes, tradability checks, popular lists, and full watchlist management.

The MCP endpoint is https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading, and users connect it from their agent client after approving access in the Robinhood app.

Which tools does the Robinhood MCP expose today?

As of June 2026, Robinhood's documented options trading tools (option chains, quotes, order review, and placement) are not yet visible in most agent clients, even though Robinhood lists them as rolling out. Any product selling "AI options trading on Robinhood" today is ahead of the actual tool surface.

What is the dedicated Agentic account?

Robinhood isolates agentic trading in a separate account type. The Agentic account starts unfunded; users move money in deliberately. Agents can review and place equity orders only there, while every other account stays read-only. Users remain fully responsible for trades their AI agents place, Robinhood's terms do not shift liability to the agent or the model provider.

What goes wrong when people connect agents to brokerages?

The failure pattern is rarely a dramatic rogue trade. It is operational sloppiness:

  • Workflows run against the wrong account because nobody verified which account is agentic_allowed.
  • An agent assumes a tool exists (usually options) and improvises when it doesn't.
  • Watchlist writes happen silently because nobody set a confirmation rule.
  • No record exists of what the agent did, considered, or declined to do.
  • Credentials get pasted into chats, the one mistake with no undo.

The fix is process: audit the visible tool surface first, set a written risk policy, require explicit confirmation for every write, and journal every session.

How do you set up the Robinhood MCP safely?

The safe order of operations, independent of which client you use:

  • Connect the MCP through your client's connector flow and approve it in the Robinhood app, never by sharing credentials with the agent.
  • Run a tool-surface audit: make the agent list which Robinhood tools it can actually call.
  • Identify the Agentic account and confirm everything else is read-only.
  • Set a risk policy before any order-review workflow.
  • Keep the first sessions read-only: portfolio audit, quotes, watchlist review.

We maintain six free open-source skills that implement these steps, setup verification, risk guardrails, paper-first validation, and audit journaling, for any MCP-capable agent.

Common questions

Can ChatGPT or Claude trade my Robinhood account?

Only in the dedicated Agentic account, only through Robinhood's official order review and placement tools, and only with money you moved there. Your regular accounts are readable but not tradable by agents.

Does the Robinhood MCP support options trading?

Not in most clients yet. The tools are documented and rolling out, but option chains, quotes, review, and placement are not exposed in most sessions as of June 2026.

Is the Robinhood MCP free?

Yes. It's a feature of Robinhood's platform. You pay nothing extra to connect an agent; standard trading terms apply.

Is connecting an AI agent to a brokerage account a good idea?

It is a real risk surface, which is why the dedicated account exists and why disciplined users keep agents read-only until process is in place. If you want that process pre-built, 11 workflows, daily checks, risk policy, approval queue, audit trail, that's what the SherwoodCraft Equities Bundle is.
